Euro VI technology – a challenge for the owners of commercial vehicle fleets

Along with the new regulations of the European Union concerning the reduction of exhaust emission in the atmosphere, the manufacturers of commercial vehicle engines have invested massively in the development of the Euro VI technology.

These changes have been viewed with reluctance by the fleet owners, however those who were among the first to adopt these changes managed to increase the effectiveness of the fleet they owned. ExxonMobil in cooperation with the Commercial Motor magazine have spoken to 3 of the company representatives that already chose Euro VI engines to increase the effectiveness of their fleets:

  • Howard Everson – business development manager at TMA Bark
  • Martin Boyes – assistant transport manager at McLaren Racing
  • John Fletcher – MD at Dawsonrentals truck and trailer

You can see below their thoughts on the Euro VI technology and the effects it had on the businesses the 3 representatives are part of.

The company owner has no fear in keeping up with the evolution of technology. Moreover, the Euro VI technology met our needs very well, especially since we are operating in a sector where sustainability is extremely important.

Howard Everson (TMA Bark)

For the people at McLaren Racing, switching to Euro VI engines was based on both financial and strategic reasons.

Before making this transition, we were using a fleet with Euro 4 and Euro 5 engines to transport the cars to races. Being active in the transportation industry, we wanted to be the first Formula 1 team that exceeded the requirements of the environment policies and maintained this status "company with low carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere.

Martin Boyes (McLaren Racing)

Also, we noticed that over a period of 5 months the fuel savings increased by 6%. Martin Boyes said that a major contribution to these savings was made by using the Mobil Delvac 1 lubricant.

In the case of Dawsonrentals, that has 3500 trucks, the switch to Euro VI engines was seen as a challenge.

The challenge for us and for the producers is the way we implement these changes so that we get over the possible rejections from the fleet operators. We are not afraid of the new technology and this is the message we want to convey to the fleet operators around the world.

John Fletcher

It is clear that the switching to the Euro VI technology will have a major impact on any owner of commercial vehicle fleet, but on a long term the benefits of savings on the fuel receipt should remove any reluctance.

The Euro VI technology combined with Mobil Delvac 1 lubricants distributed by Star Lubricants can contribute to the increase in the effectiveness of the commercial vehicle fleet and to a decrease in fuel consumption, an aspect proven already in numerous field tests.

For instance, the new formulation of Mobil Delvac 1 LE 5W-30 offers a series of major advantages on the increased protection of the emission system and a possible fuel saving.
